Due to deforestation, gibbons are the most endangered of the ape species. There are only between 1300-2000 left in the wild and four species are on the brink of extinction. For example the Northern White-cheeked Gibbon has less than an estimated 50 individuals. The Hainan Gibbon has only about 22 gibbons recorded in the most recent count in the Bawangling National Nature Reserve on Hainan Island. Poaching, logging, illegal pulp paper plantations, etc., are responsible for the sad state of these super cute gibbons. So today I have cycled to raise awareness of what is happening to these adorable animals.
